All Along The San Juan River Gallery
Classic San Juan Anthropomorphic Style Basketmaker II images were pecked, carved, and incised on the cliff faces above the San Juan River at Butler Wash. The figures are broad-shouldered and 4 to 5 feet tall. A variety of spectacular headdresses, torso decorations, multi-stranded necklaces, fringed waistbands, and bandoliers adorn the images. At the bottom of the panel are articles with loop-handles that may represent flayed scalps, heads, or medicine bags. |
