Salinas Province New Mexico Gallery
Pueblo IV painted masks are frequent subjects at Abo Pass near the Tompiro Pueblo of Tenabo. Abo, Tenabo, Pueblo Pardo, and Gran Quivera are Tompiro pueblos in the Salinas Province. The blue paint that covers the mask face and appears in the feathers is obtained from grinding either the mineral lazurite or azurite into a powder. Both are copper carbonite compounds. |
